We are in Fiji...

After a three day sail from Tonga, we are now in Fiji, the weather has got cooler the further west we are travelling, still its nice for sleeping at night, and we can still swim during the day, so not really complaining!  We have started our Fijian cruising in the north in Savusavu and have been heading South and West to the main island of Viti Levu

Giant clam shells at Makogai Island, where there is a rehab centre for giant clams and turtles run by the Fijian Govt

Oliver enjoying his new kayak, we finally found one to buy from another yacht in Savusavu.  Meeting other boat kids is always fun...

Pounding the kava, a daily ritual for the islanders on Makogai Island

Fijian dancers at the SavuSavu Yacht club, where the kids who sail the optimist and laser dinghies every weekend, raise money by performing traditional dancing.  Oliver spent the morning with this group of kids on Saturday racing the dinghies
The finished product of kava, the root is pounded to a powder and mixed with water

 Preparing the kava...a lengthy process

Preparing to reel in the fishing line - catching plenty of fish trolling our lines

Oliver doing his schoolwork - hard to keep on task

Enjoying another paddle on the new kayak

 Makogai Island

Nanini Island - lots of reef in Fiji, here is low tide when many reefs are exposed

Calm anchorage at Nanini Island, swimming with another boat kid is always fun

Sailing the northern coast of Viti Levu - have to keep a good lookout for reef

Another fish!  Caught 4 fish this particular day, threw the first one back as we didn't know what it was and kept (and ate) 3

 What is this fish???
 And this fish???
Exposed reef at low tide; dodging between the reefs
 Good name!
